Fit: this is the real difference
The 3001 fits like a shirt you would buy at a mall. The 1717 fits like a shirt you would borrow from someone bigger.
Bella+Canvas cuts the 3001 with side seams and a tapered body. A Medium sits close to the chest and ends at the hip. If you like a tee that shows your shape, or you plan to tuck it in, this is the one.
Comfort Colors builds the 1717 on a tubular knit with no side seams, then dyes the finished shirt. It comes out about one size roomier than the 3001 at the same label size, with a longer body. If you want the oversized, slept-in look, choose the 1717 and buy your normal size. If you want it to fit like a normal tee, size down.
Weight and feel
The 3001 is 4.2 oz. It is the lighter, cooler shirt and the one to wear under a jacket or in summer.
The 1717 is 6.1 oz. It has real weight on the shoulders, holds its shape, and gets softer with every wash because the garment-dye process has already broken the cotton in. It is the fall and winter shirt.
How the badge behaves on each
The badge is applied on a light panel. On the White 1717 and on White, Natural, Ash or light heather 3001 colors, the panel disappears into the shirt. On dark 3001 colors the panel shows as a light rectangle. We explain why in this post, and we say it on every product page so nobody is surprised.
Measurements
Chest width is measured flat, armpit to armpit. Body length is from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem. Every size for both shirts is on our size guide, and you can compare it against a tee you already own.
